FELIZ NAVIDAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, with the weather down here it doesn't quite feel like
Christmas time. For most of the week it was in the high 70's to 80's :) It was
wonderful. But yesterday a cold front hit and it's cold again, and rainy. I'm
dreaming of a white Christmas but the odds are not in my favor.
It's been a fun week filled with wonderful Christmas
activities. We had our mission Christmas devotional on Tuesday. President and
Sister Wall came down to New Orleans and fed us (the New Orleans English and
Spanish Zones) lunch then with the help of their assistants, office Elders and
a few other missionaries, they performed a wonderful Christmas play based on
the Christmas scenes from the Book of Mormon scriptures. After the devotional,
we had to say goodbye to Hermana Hillstead. She drove up to Baton Rouge with
The Walls and she flew out on Wednesday.
Several times this week we went caroling with different
Elders but yesterday we went caroling with all the missionaries and the Relief
Society Presidency. It wasn't really planned and was kind of thrown together
last minute. The weather was looking pretty bleak after church but we decided
to go anyway. Well, after the 3 house it began to drizzle and by the time we
reached the 4th house it was pouring rain. But none of us let that get us down.
We continued singing and everyone had a huge smile on their face as we shared
the Christmas Spirit!! It was a quite a
funny sight to see 16 missionaries soaking wet and singing Christmas songs! The
women from the Relief Society were smart a brought umbrellas!
We had a huge surprise and a Christmas miracle happen this
past week. So a girl from Hermana Garcia's home branch lives here in New
Orleans for work. So we got her address and decided to go surprise her on
Saturday. Well we knocked on the door and it turns out the whole family is here
in town for Christmas and because their daughter that lives here had surgery!
So we will be spending Christmas Eve (with permission from President, since
they are close family friends) with a family from Hermana Garcia's home branch.
:)
Being a missionary during the Christmas time can be really
hard and filled with homesickness but it is also filled with so many wonderful opportunities
to share the Gospel. For that reason, I love being a missionary during
Christmas time and I'm so grateful for the chance I have to spend 2 Christmases
on the mission. Christmas time is so wonderful because everyone is just so much
more open. We've been able to see so many people and share the wonderful Spirit
of Christmas. It's the perfect "excuse" to see people that normally
won't let you in because their hearts are a whole lot softer this time of year.
I just love Christmas!
And I'm so excited to get to talk to my family this
Christmas! And hopefully see them on Skype!
Espero que tengan una feliz Navidad!
Con mucho amor,
Kim
